Komen Oregon

We recently launched a partnership with Komen Oregon and Race for the Cure.

The official MapWith.Us + Komen Oregon Race for the Cure route and event map up and running at www.komenoregon.org. Check it out for race & event details, parking, and great photos from last year’s event. Stay tuned: this map will become the platform for real-time mobile photo & video postings from this year’s event!

We are also helping Komen Oregon show off the incredible work they do providing grant money across the state of Oregon. Map of Grantees:

Come along for the STP ride!

Seattle Times reporter, Sanjay Bhatt, made the trek from Seattle-to-Portland this weekend, riding in the annual STP bike race. “This 200-mile bicycle ride is the largest multi-day bicycle event in the Northwest, with up to 10,000 participants riding from Seattle to Portland in one or two days.”

Maritime Mapping 2.0?

I hit the water with MapWith.Us Mobile this weekend! Our mobile app for BlackBerry performed wonderfully on a sunset cruise of Lake Union and Lake Washington in Seattle on Saturday night. Photos were taken with my BlackBerry Curve, and posted to the map in real time.

After a sunny day in Seattle, it was a beautiful evening on the water.

A clear night and gorgeous sunset over the Olympics.

Earlier in the day, I took advantage of the weather and ran around Queen Anne hill, which may have more scenic viewpoints per mile than any other loop in Seattle…especially on a sunny day.

All New Map Creation Tools

We have revamped our map creation tools, making them easier to understand and all-around more user-friendly.

Publication:

• Publish & unpublish with one click.

• Make public/private or password-protected.

• Make your map embeddable and plug it into your own website.

• Create RSS feeds and make available for updates.

Select from other categories to customize and further optimize your map:

About – Set the map’s title, keywords, and description (be generous with keywords to improve search results).

Visuals – Set your thumbnail & logo images. The thumbnail will show up next to your map on our listing, and the logo will be positioned over your map info on the preview pane.

Views & Overlays – Set your default view to lock location & select view (map/terrain/satellite). You can set up additional map views such as “downtown” vs. “city”, and map overlays to categorize your map content. Example: SW WA Visitors Bureau.

Sharing – Allow others to contribute to your maps by adding and editing new items. Create a group map for collaboration.

Browsing – Set limits on the number of items displayed per page (10-100 per page). Set the length of time that items will be displayed (1 day – all time).

Mobility – Make your map mobile, so you can post real-time content from your mobile device while on-the-go. More on Mobile Apps.

Comments – Enable or limit user commenting on your map.

Reporting – This refers to “report abuse” functionality. By selecting this option, reported items can be auto-removed.

Hello all you Facebookers, the MapWith.Us Facebook App is now live and in action! Add MapWith.Us to your Facebook profile and start sharing your custom maps with friends.

Profile integration – the app can be added to your profile main page, or boxes page.

For our business and newspaper partners, you can use the app to automatically integrate your custom, map-based content into your Facebook profile and keep your friends and members up to date on events and stories.

Map browsing – share your maps with friends

Post to news feed – automatically post map updates to your news feed

Invite friends - you can invite your friends to check out the application, but don’t worry, we won’t require you to “send this on to 25 of your friends”

To add the MapWith.Us app to your Facebook profile:

1.    Search Facebook application directory for “MapWithUs”.
2.    Click “Add application”.
3.    It’s that easy!

MapWith.Us 2009: New Year, New Design

The busy team here at MapWith.Us is starting out the New Year right by bringing you a fresh new design! We launched an entirely new look and feel last week.

We wanted to show off our real-time mobile mapping technology and also highlight the growing Business Solutions aspect of our company. Our business partnering capabilities are expanding, with embedded map design/integration services and layered data-set mapping.

Our online map creation toolkit has also been enhanced. A bunch of new features have been rolled out, including:

- A new photo viewing library using Lytebox (thanks to http://dolem.com/lytebox/)

- Timelines for map updates

- Drag and drop tool for map item creation

Next up:

We are moving as fast as we can to bring you more advanced mapping tools and enhancements: user profile customization with widgets, a commenting system, map analytics for businesses, and … the MapWith.Us Facebook App!
